About Us
Solinnov is a leader in high‑performance embedded signal‑processing systems for complex wireless communications, electronic warfare and radar problems. With headquarters in Adelaide and a growing office in Kew, Melbourne, we work closely with the Australian Government and Defence to design and build innovative products that matter.
We’re a team of engineers, scientists and makers who value courage, trust and excellence. Our culture encourages passionate self‑improvement, trying new ideas and striving for outstanding results. We support each other in a friendly, inclusive environment - our underlying approach to work is “geeks having fun.”
Our Culture
We believe great engineering happens when people are empowered to learn, experiment and collaborate. We operate using Agile methodologies, with flexible working arrangements, competitive salaries, paid parental leave and study support. Above all, we invest in our people’s growth and wellbeing.
IMPORTANT: Applicants must hold Australian citizenship and either have, or be eligible to obtain, an Australian Defence security clearance (NV1) from the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
The Role
We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering and products teams in Melbourne. You will be central in transforming innovative designs into real‑world products, working in conjunction with the electronics hardware team and taking responsibility for mechanical and thermal design, integration, prototype assembly, testing and preparing manufacturing documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical & Thermal Design – Perform technically challenging mechanical and thermal system design and drafting tasks, demonstrating strong engineering fundamentals.
Detailed Drawings & Packaging – Prepare high‑quality mechanical and electro‑mechanical drawings; design electronic packaging, including interconnects, interface control documents and design-for-manufacture/assembly techniques.
Collaboration – Liaise with electronics engineers to package electronics into small size, weight and power (SWaP) systems; support cross‑discipline teams and mentor colleagues when appropriate.
3D/2D Design & Documentation – Use 3D models to produce detailed 2D engineering drawings, from components through to assembly; create technical data packages with 3D drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
Reporting & Communication – Provide technical inputs and estimates, prepare design reports and presentations, and keep project stakeholders informed of progress.
Support & Professionalism – Assist other departments as needed, provide timely support to projects, and conduct business professionally with minimal supervision.
About You
You are a proactive problem‑solver with excellent communication skills and a passion for mechanical design. You thrive in collaborative environments and are comfortable managing relationships across engineering disciplines and with end‑users.
Skills & Experience
Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams.
Proven experience integrating electronics into small SWaP systems. · Expertise in thermal modelling and simulation to guide packaging and heatsink design with an emphasis on passive cooling solutions.
Experience designing systems compliant with MIL‑STD‑810 (or similar ruggedisation standards).
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Inventor, or similar) and ability to produce detailed 2D drawings.
Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles.
Strong organisational skills and an ability to estimate and manage design tasks.
Australian citizenship and eligibility for an NV1 security clearance are required.
Key Benefits
Competitive remuneration with regular reviews.
Flexible working arrangements, paid parental leave, and study assistance.
Opportunity to work on projects of national significance alongside experts in signal processing, electronics and software.
Supportive culture built on courage, trust and excellence - "geeks having fun.”
