Senior Regulatory Officer – Privacy & Information Regulation

• 2-month contract with likely extension
• $65–$75 p/h + super (Clerk Grade 9/10 level)

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Officer to join a high-performing team overseeing privacy, data protection, and information access regulation for a leading independent agency. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact compliance work in a legislatively complex and public-facing environment, supporting the public’s right to access information and ensuring their privacy is protected.

What You’ll Be Doing In this role, you’ll:

• Manage a caseload of complex complaints and investigations relating to privacy breaches and access to government-held information
• Lead regulatory reviews, case assessments, and proactive compliance activities
• Provide guidance to junior officers and contribute to quality control across investigations
• Work directly with individuals, government agencies, and other stakeholders to resolve sensitive issues, often under tight timeframes
• Prepare high-level regulatory reports, briefings, and recommendations that support policy and compliance outcomes
• Identify systemic issues and help shape future regulatory approaches through project work and legal analysis

About You You're a confident, solutions-focused regulatory professional with:

• Experience applying legislation in a regulatory, legal, or investigative setting (ideally privacy, FOI, or public sector compliance)
• Strong case management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
• Excellent written communication, research and analytical abilities – particularly in preparing reports or decisions
• The ability to work independently while providing leadership and mentoring to junior staff
• Outstanding interpersonal and negotiation skills – comfortable dealing with sensitive matters and high-level stakeholders
• An understanding of privacy rights, government transparency, or administrative law is highly regarded
