We are seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant with a strong background in payroll and accounts payable to join our finance team. This role involves managing end-to-end payroll for 100+ employees using Employment Hero, ensuring compliance with Australian regulations, and overseeing supplier accounts and payments in Xero.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to grow their career. CPA/CA accreditation support will be provided to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll (Employment Hero)

Process weekly payroll for 100+ employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Review and correct payroll reports, resolving discrepancies as required.

Communicate with employees on payroll queries, including timesheets and entitlements.

Coordinate with managers to verify overtime and production hours.

Upload and validate payroll data in Employment Hero, ensuring correct and on-time payments.

Prepare payroll reconciliations and process back payments.

Assist with submitting payroll tax and superannuation lodgments to relevant authorities.

Assist with year-end payroll reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Support HR with administrative tasks (e.g. recruitment, onboarding, reference checks)

Accounts Payable & Finance (Xero)

Process supplier invoices, purchase orders, and payments in Xero.

Reconcile supplier statements and investigate variances.

Ensure compliance with approval processes and company policies.

Assist with month-end accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll and AP processes.

You’ll Bring

Minimum 3 years’ experience in financial accounting, payroll, and reporting.

Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or related field.

CPA/CA qualified or actively progressing towards certification (support provided).

Hands-on experience with Employment Hero (payroll) and/or Xero (accounting) highly regarded.

Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables); Power BI an advantage.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
