About the Agency:
This small, specialised government agency plays a vital role in supporting fair and transparent practices within its sector. Working closely with stakeholders across Australia, it undertakes reviews, provides expert advice, and ensures processes are carried out with integrity. The agency operates in a collaborative, professional environment, with a strong focus on accountability, compliance, and the effective delivery of its statutory responsibilities.
The Role:
We are seeking a skilled Communications Manager to lead integrated communication activities that create connection, understanding, and inclusion across the agency and with its stakeholders.
As the sole communications professional in a small, collaborative team, you will work independently on long-term projects such as strategic communications development, as well as delivering regular internal and external communications to tight deadlines. This role offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to directly shape the agency’s communication approach. You will work on meaningful, varied projects in a supportive team environment while directly influencing the agency’s communications direction.
This role is located in Canberra and offers a WFH day 1 to 2 times per week. Other locations are not suitable for this role.
The initial role will be offered for 12 months, with the potential of extension and/or ongoing.
Role Responsibilities:
- Implement, monitor, and review communications strategies and frameworks.
- Manage communication channels including the website, intranet, LinkedIn, and stakeholder newsletters.
- Provide advice and support to the executive team to foster consistent two-way communication.
- Track, analyse, and report on the effectiveness of communication channels.
- Develop content and collateral for digital, print, and presentation use.
- Coordinate internal events and all-staff meetings.
- Oversee media monitoring activities and create customised reports.
- Build strong internal relationships to ensure communication needs are understood and met.
Your Skills and Experience:
You bring experience in communications, with the ability to independently manage projects from start to finish. You don’t need a government background, but you will need proven experience in a large, high-volume communications environment.
You’re confident using content management systems, skilled in both written and visual content creation, and adept at advising senior stakeholders. Your strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to navigate complexity will help you excel in this role.
Highly desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, PR, journalism, marketing, organisational psychology or related field, or extensive relevant experience.
- Knowledge of SharePoint CMS.
- Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, or similar design tools.
Eligibility and How to Apply:
To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application. A seuity clearance will be required although applicants without a clearance are welcomed to apply.
