For over 60 years, The Australian Ballet School has nurtured young talent into elite performers on the global stage. A key part of this experience is Marilyn Rowe House, our student residence for regional, interstate, and international students.
We’re seeking casual Boarding Assistants to join our skilled and supportive team, helping create a safe, caring, and vibrant residential community for secondary students training at the highest level. We recruit to reflect the diversity of our student body and seek positive role models who are curious, ambitious, and considered in their approach.
About the Role
This role supports a 24/7 residential environment with a flexible roster that includes weekday, morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.
Minimum shift: 3 hours
Sleepover shifts: Required and paid as a set allowance
Accommodation: Not provided
Boarding Assistants work collaboratively to ensure students feel supported, safe, and empowered to develop independent living skills while pursuing elite training.

Building strong relationships through proactive, everyday engagement. Know every boarder and their important connections well. A diverse team supports all students.
Promoting and shaping respectful behaviour and a caring community
Supporting students’ wellbeing and personal routines
Facilitating genuine participation and inclusion for all students
Facilitating mealtimes and encouraging positive social interaction
Assisting with homework and offering tutoring in areas of confidence
Organising and supervising group activities and weekend outings. Understand risks and actions required to safeguard students.
Attending student performances and rehearsals from time to time
Helping students navigate challenges and escalating to appropriate support when needed
Responding to minor incidents and maintaining accurate records
Initiative required for domestic & housekeeping duties ensuring safe, hygienic spaces including kitchen, laundry and common spaces
About You
This role is particularly well-suited to postgraduate students who are looking for flexible, part-time work that complements their studies and aligns with their career goals or personal interests.

Have experience working with adolescents in educational and/or informal settings (sport, clubs, volunteer programs, community organisations)
Thrive in a team and take a strengths-based approach
Feel confident in educational settings, including academic tutoring and support

Are proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused
