Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and enthusiastic Assistant Accountant to join our team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial operations, including invoice processing, payment preparation, expense management, supplier communication and management accounting. The successful candidate will have strong reconciliation skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles and tax compliance, and a proactive mindset for continuous improvement. With a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and relationship management, this role supports the broader finance team and contributes to the smooth running of our financial systems and reporting. Experience with Wiise/Business Central or similar ERP systems is highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
Invoice Processing: Receiving, verifying, and processing invoices for payment, matching them with purchase orders or contract terms, as relevant.
Payment Preparation: Preparing payments through various methods (e.g. payment cards, electronic transfers).
Expense Management: Managing expenses for employees, including verifying expenses against policy, budgets and invoices, and preparing payments.
Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of payments, invoices, purchase orders, and other relevant documents.
Reconciliation: Reconciling processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
Discrepancy Resolution: Resolving invoice errors, purchase order discrepancies, or other issues with suppliers.
Supplier Communication: Responding to supplier inquiries regarding finance and maintaining supplier relationships.
Reporting: Preparing analyses of accounts and producing monthly reports.
Improving Processes: Continuously seeking ways to improve the payment process
Management Accounting: including bank reconciliation, BAS returns, accruals and prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations. This would be an end to end responsibility for a small entity(s).
Tax Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
Use of Technology: Utilising accounting software, ERP systems, and other relevant tools.
Ad hoc assistance to the Finance Manager or Head of Finance as well as projects, may be required.
Key Skills and Attributes
The ideal experience and critical competencies for the role include the following:
3-5 years of relevant experience at accounts payable and/or junior accountant/bookkeeper.
Familiarity with Wiise or Business Central strongly preferred.
Ability to perform regular reconciliations of accounts, ensuring that payments, invoices, and financial records align with statements and general ledger accounts.
A solid understanding of basic accounting principles such as debits, credits, and the general ledger, and knowledge of GST for tax compliance.
Articulate with strong communication skills and ability to liaise frequently with suppliers and project leaders.
A mindset that looks for opportunities to improve the accounts payable process, whether it is through automation, better practices, or learning new tools and techniques.
Friendly, positive attitude and highly growth orientated.
