ANU Sport is an independent incorporated association that delivers sport, fitness and recreation services and opportunities to the ANU Community. ANU Sport is a UniSport member institution, and the ANU is a member of the Group of 8, Australia’s 8 leading universities.
We exist to facilitate connections within the campus community through health, well-being, and sport. We aim to enhance and grow the opportunities for students and the ANU community to engage in sport, fitness, and recreation, promoting well-being and balanced lifestyles. ANU Sport is responsible for the operations and management of the ANU Sport fitness centre and all university sports and recreation facilities. ANU Sport supports over thirty sports and recreation clubs, delivering social and competitive sporting programs.
About the role:
The Finance Administrator is an important role within the team at ANU Sport. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day management of the Association’s accounts. Central to this will be the liaison with club executives, ANU stakeholders and commercial clients.
The Finance Administrator will report to the Business Manager and will also work closely with each of the department managers. This role may be offered as a full time or part time position as negotiated with the successful candidate. Key responsibilities include:
Financial Processing & Recordkeeping
Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate payments and invoicing
Maintain financial records and ledgers in accordance with organizational policies and compliance standards
Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow to support financial stability
Budgeting & Reporting
Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
Track departmental spending and flag variances against budget allocations
Support month-end and year-end financial close processes
Compliance & Audit Support
Assist in ensuring financial practices comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and internal policies
Assist to prepare documentation and reports for internal and external audits
Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial data
Stakeholder Liaison
Respond to finance-related queries from the ANU Sport board, employees, suppliers, and clients
Assist with HR and payroll processes to ensure accurate salary processing and benefits administration
Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions as needed
Systems & Process Improvement
Use financial software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, SAP) to manage transactions and reporting
Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency
Support implementation of new financial systems or upgrade
Other duties as directed from time to time.
About you:
Our ideal candidate is high energy and passionate about sport and physical activity. You are someone who wants to work with good people and make a difference. You have bookkeeping experience and are good at building successful, professional relationships.
Mandatory
Possess well developed administrative skills and basic bookkeeping experience.
Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities in a work environment that caters for a diverse range of interests and outcomes.
Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Capacity to work effectively with financial systems and sound understanding of accounting software (preferably MYOB and Deputy).
Proven capacity to problem solve and think critically.
Proven capacity to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Willingness to learn, show initiative and exercise judgement.
Hold a current paid employee Working With Vulnerable People Card valid in Canberra, ACT.
Eligibility to work in Australia.
Desirable
Certificate / Qualification in Accounting and / or Bookkeeping
