The Shire of Mount Magnet is seeking a highly skilled Senior Finance Officer to join our finance team and play a critical role in delivering accurate, compliant, and timely financial services for our community.
This position demands accuracy, integrity, and initiative. You will be entrusted with key financial responsibilities and expected to deliver to a professional standard at all times. While the role offers the flexibility to work remotely within Western Australia, the successful candidate will be self-motivated, highly organised, and able to work independently while meeting strict deadlines.
About the Role
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Finance Officer will:
Assist with the preparation and reconciliation of monthly financial statements and reports.
Assist with smooth running of all transactional finance functions including Creditors, Debtors, Payroll & Rates.
Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and review.
Assist coordinating annual audit requirements and statutory reporting.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Shire policies, and local government accounting standards.
Assist in the development and review of the Shire’s Long-Term Financial Plan, ensuring it aligns with the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan and Asset Management Plans.
Assist in the preparation of grant funding applications, acquittals and financial audits.
About You (Selection Criteria)
To excel in this role, you will have:
Proven experience in local government finance or a similar high-level accounting role.
Financial skills including experience in preparation of Council / Management reports, BAS, bank reconciliations, and a sound understanding of accounting principles
Proficiency with financial management systems (SynergySoft experience highly desirable)
Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management
Residency in Western Australia is essential
