Our client is a NSW government department that is a primary environmental regulator. They partner with business, government and the community to reduce pollution and waste, protect human health and prevent degradation of the environment.

Role Description

The Environment Compliance Officer will work to ensure that all water related construction activities comply with environmental regulations and approval conditions - following a rigorous environment management framework.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure all construction activities comply with local, state (e.g., NSW EPA) and federal environmental regulations and approval conditions
• Review and monitor compliance with site Construction Environmental Management Plans in line with relevant NSW government Water Group requirements
• Conduct site inspections, audits and environmental monitoring (e.g. water quality, noise, dust) and report non-compliance or incidents
• Liaise with contractors, regulatory agencies and Traditional Owners to ensure environmental expectations are met
• Provide environmental induction and ongoing training to site personnel to promote best practices

Skills and Experience:

• Experience in environmental compliance
• Able to attend remote and regional locations of construction sites (in the Riverina area) and navigate a complex regulatory landscape
• White Card, 4WD training and relevant environmental audit certification
• Experience with water related construction compliance an advantage e.g. water infrastructure, regulating weirs, block banks, sediment erosion control
• Must be sensitive to cultural heritage
• Experience in environmental assessment and approval (big urban projects experience will be considered)
• Good documentation skills
