Play a Key Role in Delivering the Digital Future for Tasmania’s Public Sector
Tasmanet — Tasmania’s leading telecommunications and technology services provider — is seeking a high-performing and experienced Senior Account Manager to manage and grow our strategic relationships with the Tasmanian State Government. This role is based in Hobart and will be integral in driving the adoption of next-generation connectivity and ICT services that directly support the state’s digital transformation agenda.
You will join a passionate and agile team that delivers complex, business-critical solutions to large enterprises and government clients — while contributing to the digital advancement of Tasmania and the nation.
About Tasmanet – Powered by Comms Group
Tasmanet is a proudly Tasmanian business with more than 20 years of experience delivering advanced telecommunications and managed network services to businesses, schools, and government agencies across the state. In 2025, Tasmanet joined forces with Comms Group, a leading Australian telco and cloud communications provider with global reach.
This partnership combines Tasmanet’s deep local knowledge and customer relationships with Comms Group’s national network, global presence, and broad ICT capability, giving us the power to deliver solutions that scale across state, national, and international domains.
About the Role
As a Senior Account Manager – State Government, you will be responsible for owning the end-to-end relationship with some of our most important and strategic customers — Tasmania’s state government departments and agencies. This role requires a deep understanding of the telecommunications landscape, the ability to build trust with executive-level public sector stakeholders, and a mindset focused on long-term value, not short-term transactions.
You’ll be responsible for driving growth, leading consultative solution engagements, and helping clients navigate the rapidly evolving technology landscape. You’ll also work closely with internal specialists — from presales and solution architects to project managers and support teams — to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Leadership
Manage and grow a portfolio of existing State Government clients with a focus on retention, expansion, and innovation.
Act as a trusted strategic advisor to senior government stakeholders, understanding their business priorities and aligning Tasmanet’s solutions accordingly.
Drive the adoption of network, cloud, and voice solutions that support whole-of-government strategies such as service digitisation, regional development, and smart infrastructure.
Business Growth and Commercial Ownership
Lead complex sales engagements from discovery to close, including opportunity qualification, bid responses, and commercial negotiations.
Identify new business opportunities within government portfolios through proactive planning and stakeholder mapping.
Build strategic account development plans with clear financial targets and growth initiatives.
Solution Delivery and Collaboration
Work closely with solution architects, presales consultants, and engineering teams to design tailored solutions, RFP responses, and proposals.
Act as the central coordination point between government clients and Tasmanet’s technical, operations, and service delivery teams.
Ensure timely project delivery, SLAs, and continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with the customer.
Contract and Compliance Management
Navigate State Government procurement frameworks, contract extensions, and formal review cycles with precision and professionalism.
Maintain accurate CRM records, reporting forecasts, and pipeline health to senior leadership.
Uphold regulatory, compliance, and security obligations in all engagements.
What You Bring to the Table
Essential Qualifications and Experience
5+ years’ experience in a senior account management, sales, or client delivery role with a focus on telecommunications or ICT.
Telecommunications experience is essential – you must have a proven track record working with network, voice, data, or managed telecom services.
Proven experience managing major public sector or enterprise accounts, with demonstrated success in long-term client growth and stakeholder engagement.
Deep understanding of telecommunications solutions such as internet, WAN/SD-WAN, fibre, voice (SIP, VoIP), cloud communications, cybersecurity, and managed services.
Strong working knowledge of government procurement frameworks, tendering processes, and stakeholder hierarchies.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills — capable of influencing C-level and technical decision-makers.
Strong business acumen and a commercial mindset with experience building multi-year growth strategies and account plans.
Desirable
Formal qualifications in business, ICT, telecommunications, or public administration.
Familiarity with Comms Group offerings, Tier 1 telco solutions, or hybrid multi-site service delivery.
A strong professional network within Tasmanian Government or associated statutory bodies.
Why Join Us
At Tasmanet, you’ll work on the frontline of digital transformation — not just selling solutions, but building the networks and systems that support education, healthcare, emergency services, and regional development.
What You Can Expect
Strategic Impact: Help lead large-scale digital projects that transform how government delivers services to Tasmanians.
Supportive Culture: Work within a values-led, locally empowered team backed by the strength and scale of Comms Group.
Career Growth: Real opportunities for leadership development, lateral moves, and national exposure.
Flexibility: Hobart-based with options for hybrid work arrangements, site visits, and flexible hours.
Attractive Package: Competitive base salary + car allowance + phone/laptop + uncapped commissions and incentive structure.
Innovation-Driven Environment: You’ll be empowered to challenge the norm, influence roadmaps, and create solutions that matter.
