Cefn Genetics Pty Ltd is offering an exciting full-time, permanent opportunity for an Animal Science graduate or similarly qualified individual to join our Genetics team based between Clifton and Leyburn, Queensland.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Genetics Managers, you will work across key areas of our Genetics Department. Your role will include technical office administration, data collection, and contributing to the implementation of our future breeding strategies.
The successful candidate will be one who is wanting to advance their career in genetics, while also having a passion for working in a hands-on environment with our animals.
A tailored, in-house training program will be provided, aligned with your existing experience. This will cover:
Ultrasound scanning techniques
Use of linear genetic programs
Application of genetic marker technologies
Practical, hands-on experience in pig husbandry at both our Nucleus and commercial farms.
Key Responsibilities
Support the management and daily operations of the Artificial Insemination Laboratory
Perform data collection and contribute to performance testing of pigs, including ultrasound scanning at the Nucleus farm
Assist with genomic tissue collection and genetic data analysis for ongoing evaluation and improvement
Utilise Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) for technical and reporting tasks
Present findings and genetic performance data to senior management and external consultants
Participate in the continuous development and implementation of Cefn’s breeding program
Selection of breeding stock using genetic data and understanding phenotypic traits and conformation
About You
A degree in Animal Science or related field
Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office
A keen interest in genetics and animal breeding
Team-focused attitude and willingness to learn
Prior experience in pig production is advantageous but not essential
A variety of experiences awaits you ranging from involvement with the Artificial Insemination Laboratory and weekly ultra-sound and performance testing of Nucleus pigs, right through to computer-based analysis of Estimated Breeding Values and Genomic evaluation.
