Are you ready to take the lead in delivering high-impact infrastructure projects?
Mackay Regional Council is seeking a proactive and skilled Technical Officer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of maintenance and capital works programs across our Civil Operations team.
As a Technical Officer, you will:
- Provide technical input and support for operational and capital works programs.
- Conduct asset condition inspections and assessments.
- Lead the development and maintenance of asset and maintenance management systems.
- Manage contractor services and contribute to budget planning and monitoring.
- Liaise with government departments and stakeholders on public transport and infrastructure matters.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in work practices and service delivery.
What You'll Need
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Certificate in Civil Construction or equivalent in civil engineering works.
- Extensive experience in roads and drainage maintenance/construction.
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
- Current General Construction Safety 'White' Card.
- Current QLD 'C' Class Open Driver's Licence.
Desirable:
- Internal Auditorqualifications (e.g., quality systems).
Skills & Knowledge
Essential:
- Highly developed communication skills both oral and written.
- Highly developed skills in reading, interpreting, understanding and developing engineering drawings and specifications.
- Ability to use initiative and judgement in obtaining and analysing statistical data to identify and improve work practices.
- Well-developed level of competency in operation of computer systems and use of Microsoft Office suite of programs, in particular, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other Council's computerised operating systems e.g., finance and client service.
- Able to contribute critical knowledge and skills to initiating new ideas and creative solutions for field operation and technical issues.
- High level time management skills.
- Excellent client service/public relations skills.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Thorough knowledge of underlying principles in roads and drainages construction and maintenance practices, procedures and specifications.
- Sound knowledge of contracting processes and practices.
- Working knowledge of relevant Acts, Policies and Codes and Departmental and Organisational Procedures.
Desirable
- Competent operation of survey equipment for civil works activities
Special Requirements
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours to meet the requirements of the position
- Ability to work under remote supervision
- Must be prepared to learn and continually improve by undertaking relevant training and attending relevant workshops, seminars etc.
