The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) is an independent, non-partisan think tank that produces expert and timely advice for political, strategic and security leaders in Australia and the Indo-Pacific
region. In these uncertain times, ASPI is increasingly being relied upon by government, media and the private sector as a source of informed thinking on matters relating to Australia’s national security.
About the Role
ASPI has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated events professional to join the organisation as Events Manager. Lead a small, dedicated, tight-knit team to deliver a program of internationally renowned events on a variety of topics ranging from defence and national security to cyber and critical technologies.
The successful applicant will be an organised, detail-oriented team player with a keen interest in shaping, leading and delivering high-quality events. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in event, project and budget management, stakeholder engagement and management and a track record of delivering high quality events (individually, and as part of a team).
This role will suit a creative and outgoing individual with a passion for curating high-quality events, and an ability to manage a busy and conflicting schedule. The Events Manager will work closely with ASPI’s leadership team to shape and evolve ASPI’s events program.
Duty Statement
Events
Lead ASPI’s broad range of events on a daily basis and develop the events forward work plan;
· Shape and develop ASPI’s event program, including:
o Private dinners;
o Closed-door roundtables;
o Interactive workshops;
o Strategic dialogues (hosted in Canberra and internationally);
o Public panel events;
o ASPI Masterclasses;
o ASPI’s Annual Defence Conference;
o ASPI’s Sydney Dialogue;
o ASPI’s Darwin Dialogue.
· Develop ideas for events and identify opportunities to grow ASPI’s schedule of public events;
· Work alongside ASPI’s National Security, Defence Strategy, and Cyber, Technology and Security programs to identify event opportunities to complement their research;
· Engage with external stakeholders to discuss upcoming events, including topics, invitations, attendee and speaker opportunities;
· Management of event relationships with stakeholders at all levels across government, industry and civil society, including foreign governments and international research bodies;
· Manage event budgets and ensure events are delivered to a high standard and within budget;
· Work with ASPI’s team to showcase events during partnership pitches and meetings;
· Work with the Executive team to maintain ASPI’s relationships with overseas research institutes and ongoing events
· Work collaboratively with the professional development team to coordinate use of ASPI's training centre for events and functions;
· Provide guidance and support across ASPI on events;
· Workshop ideas to leverage new and existing event tools to evolve ASPI’s events.
