Camp Kokoda (Maroon) and Kokoda Park (Thornton), QLD
Kokoda Youth Foundation

Use the outdoors to change lives. Discover your purpose through the Spirit of Kokoda.

The Kokoda Youth Foundation is expanding and we’re looking for passionate people to join our team. Whether you’re already an experienced outdoor instructor or just starting out, we have a place for you.

We deliver life-changing experiences to young people through outdoor adventure, challenge, and mentoring. Every program is designed to develop resilience, confidence, and self-belief – and you can play a part in that journey.

What makes us different

We’re not just running camps – we’re changing lives.

We’re a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to help young people find courage, build endurance, show mateship, and understand sacrifice – the four Kokoda values that underpin everything we do.

Our programs are focused on young people who need it most – those disengaged from school, struggling with confidence, or at risk.

We operate two unique camp facilities where the bush becomes the classroom.

We offer more than a job – we offer a purpose-driven career pathway with support and training along the way.

Who we’re looking for

Experienced Outdoor Education Instructors (Full-time or casual):
You’ll be confident managing groups in outdoor, remote environments and experienced in delivering high ropes, canoeing, hiking, bush skills and other adventure-based activities. You’ll be a role model for young people and bring strong risk awareness, practical leadership, and professionalism to every program.

Entry-Level Outdoor Assistants (casual or trainee):
No experience? No problem. If you’re reliable, enthusiastic and love the outdoors, we’ll train you. These roles are ideal for those wanting to enter the outdoor education or youth work field. You’ll gain real-world experience while learning from a highly skilled and supportive team.

To succeed in these roles, you will have or be willing to obtain:

For experienced instructors:

Certificate III or IV in Outdoor Leadership or equivalent

Wilderness or Remote Area First Aid

Experience managing groups in remote or high-risk environments

Manual driver's licence

QLD Working with Children Blue Card

For entry-level assistants:

A positive, proactive attitude

Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor settings

Willingness to learn and be part of a team

Interest in working with young people

Over 18 years of age

Willingness to obtain First Aid and Blue Card (we can support you through this)

What we offer

A values-driven team culture that supports your growth

Structured on-the-job training for entry-level roles

Opportunities to work across both our Maroon and Thornton sites

Flexible rosters and accommodation during camp delivery

A chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people

Internal development pathways for those wanting to build a career in outdoor education or youth work

How to apply

Please submit your resume along with a cover letter telling us why you want to work for the Kokoda Youth Foundation and what you hope to bring to the role.

We look forward to hearing from people who are ready to be part of something bigger than just a job.

About Kokoda Youth Foundation

Nerang, QLD, Australia
Community Services & Development
11-50 employees

Kokoda Youth Foundation’s goal is not only to help kids in our local community, but also to honour the Australian soldiers that fought for our freedom in Papua New Guinea during WWII and to spread awareness to more Australians about this story and legacy.

The heroic defense of Australia against imminent invasion and the spirit of our young soldiers demonstrates that when we work together, look out for each other, and show commitment to a task, things that at first seem impossible, suddenly become achievable.

The Spirit of Kokoda instills the values of Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice into the community of today.
