The Oyster Inn, established in 2012, is a much-loved beach-chic bistro known for fresh, simple, and delicious food with a focus on seafood and classic dishes with a twist. Overlooking Oneroa Beach with stunning views, The Inn has become a favourite for locals and visitors alike since being taken over by award-winning chef Josh Emett and wife Helen in 2020.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and skilled Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen team and culinary offering.

The Role:

At The Inn, your experience and skills will be fully utilised as you work alongside our Head Chef in all aspects of the kitchen. You will help lead the team to create, prepare, and deliver food that consistently exceeds customer expectations, while working to foster a positive, collaborative, and creative kitchen culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Assisting the Head Chef, you will be responsible for the operation and organisation of the kitchen and food preparation areas.

Assist in managing all aspects of the kitchen, including operational, quality and administration

Collaborate with the Head Chef to plan and produce menus to the establishment’s standard

Oversee recipe costings and assist in food and wage expense management

Drive policies and standards for food safety in all food preparation areas

Drive policies and standards for health & safety at work in all food preparation areas

Ensure smooth communication between front of house and kitchen, and that the relationship between front and back is of a high standard

Assist in managing all kitchen staff - impart knowledge, skills and training to all kitchen staff to ensure high standards

Manage staff rosters and staff records

Qualifications:

3 years in a senior kitchen role in a busy restaurant

Strong financial skills (or the drive to learn these skills), covering menu costing and wage management

Passion for creating exceptional dishes

Creativity, strong communication skills and a natural and nurturing leadership style
