Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is one of the longest continuously operating LGBTQIA+ organisations in Australia.
We are a not-for-profit member-based organisation that produces the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and year-round initiatives that celebrate our LGBTQIA+ identity, creative expression, and elevate diverse voices.
SGLMG was built on the foundations laid by early community activists who fought for LGBTQIA+ rights in a time of wide-spread, institutionalised oppression and discrimination. From these origins, SGLMG has evolved to include a strong focus on celebration while maintaining a commitment to social justice for LGBTQIA+ communities.
About the Role
The Partnerships Manager role is primarily responsible for maintaining strong relationships with an agreed portfolio of partners and internal stakeholders. This is a hands-on role and requires a high level of competency in business development, and project and partnership management.
The demands and scope of this role involves all phases of partner management: including sales; on-boarding; development; solution delivery; reporting and renewal. Ensuring Partners adhere to timelines, creative guidelines, Partnerships Ethical Charter, and organisational and event specific Terms and Conditions will be a key performance indicator.
Works closely with other members of the partnerships team, marketing, festival and events and finance teams to ensure all activations and marketing entitlements are executed.
Key role objectives:
Establish and grow relationships with corporate, government and media stakeholders for advocacy, funding and support;
Pursue new partnerships to build an opportunity pipeline to achieve SGLMG’s financial targets;
Build a portfolio of well-known and trusted strategic partners with whom to collaborate and amplify SGLMG’s work;
Develop impactful, mutually-beneficial partnership campaigns, which put our LGBTQIA+ community at their heart
Explore new income sources (based on clear criteria and selection) that are focused on outcomes, benefits and alignment to our values;
Be driven by measurable social, economic and cultural impact; and,
Deliver best partnerships practice and experience through the planning, event execution and wrap-up reporting stages of the festival
Key requirements:
Essential
Significant experience in managing corporate partnerships portfolios and client relationships, including a demonstrated understanding of social impact and corporate social responsibility principles and practises.
Demonstrated 2-4 years’ experience with demonstrated skills in the following;
High level experience in managing multi sector, high value NFP- Business partnerships, built on a strong relationship management capacity.
Proven ability and understanding of best practice project management.
A strategic thinker and pragmatic executer with proven experience in developing and executing action plans.
Ability to conduct thorough needs assessments and apply insights to developing pragmatic solutions to ensure quality delivery and value to all partners.
Strong financial management experience specifically in budget and variance monitoring and management.
Strong understanding and proven ability to develop strategic communications strategies and plans across all platforms, traditional and digital. A network developer and influencer, experienced in stakeholder management, communications and engagement in complex organisations.
Strong understanding and proven ability to manage the development and implementation of partner creative and operational plans such as brand activations and events.
Experience in corporate event coordination and/or management including experience working in large scale event productions.
Demonstrated experience in negotiation with sound understanding on sponsorship contracts and basic legal language.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including conflict management.
Proven track record in dealing with competing priorities.
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
Strong links to the LGBTQI+ and First Nations community.
Desirable
Tertiary qualifications in communications, commerce, marketing, business or related field is advantageous.
Previous experience working at food and beverage events, or hospitality venues such as bars, cafes or restaurants
This role may require domestic travel, working outside of core business hours in the evenings and on weekends in periods of peak workload.
