Banyule City Council is seeking an experienced Strategic Procurement Coordinator to join us for a 12-month parental leave cover opportunity. This is your chance to lead our strategic procurement function, shape best-practice frameworks, and support collaborative procurement excellence across the region.
What's the opportunity?
As Councils Strategic Procurement Coordinator you'll oversee a skilled team and provide expert advice across Council. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders to embed strategic, sustainable, and compliant procurement practices, ensuring Council delivers value for money and meets its statutory obligations.
You'll represent Banyule in regional networks, lead collaborative procurement initiatives, and deliver training and reporting that enhances capability across the organisation.
This role is part of Banyule's Leadership Network – you'll have opportunities to grow your skills and experience of leadership in a Local Government context and develop your skills as an organisational leader beyond your role-based expertise.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead on procurement enhancements, reporting and educational training opportunities for Council staff in relation to all aspects of procurement.
- Provide leadership to the procurement team and be part of the Strategic Finance and Performance leadership team.
- Provide high-level procurement advice and support to the organisation, utilising best-value procurement tools and networks across the industry.
- Represent Council in the Northern Region Procurement Excellence Network and lead the collaborative procurement agenda across Banyule.
What you'll bring/ what we are looking for:
- A proven senior leader in procurement or contract management within complex environments (local government or public sector experience highly regarded).
- A strategic thinker with the ability to navigate legislation and apply best value principles.
- A collaborative leader who can inspire a team, engage stakeholders, and build trusted partnerships.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable procurement practices and emerging procurement trends.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
We offer:
- Salary of $122,479.30 - $136,887.38 per annum plus superannuation.
- A temporary parental leave cover opportunity from September 2025 – November 2026.

About Banyule City Council
Banyule is less than 30 minutes travelling time from the CBD and it has an excellent public transport network with the Melbourne-Hurstbridge Railway Line running through it. There are nine railway stations within Banyule offering interesting and varied destinations from Ivanhoe, Eaglemont and Heidelberg in the south, which are nestled in a beautiful section of the Yarra Valley and steeped in history, to the rolling wooded hills of Montmorency in the north.
