Local Canberra business with sites across 2 locations and a small corporate and finance team, looking for their next payroll and finance officer. Reporting to their CFO, this permanent payroll officer position needs someone with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll and ideally with some experience managing finance functions, or an interest to learn.
Managing weekly payroll for up to 200 staff this is a busy role so they need someone who can quickly adapt to this payroll function but also bring new ideas on how they can streamline and make their payroll processing functions for efficient. The team is collaborative and innovative and would like a person with a similar mindset to join them.
This is a position and team that will engage regularly with staff and managers on a range of payroll queries. To be successful in the role you need to have a questioning mindset and be comfortable engaging and communicating with people with a varying level of understanding of payroll processing or entitlements.
This is not a role for someone who prefers to sit behind emails or your laptop – you need to be happy to get out on the floor talking with people and answering questions.
Typically working during standard business hours, corporate staff work from the office most days, with some flexibility to work from home to manage personal circumstances on an ad-hoc basis.
Free parking on site in their North Canberra location. Salary $80-$85K plus super, with salary sacrificing and extra staff benefits also available.
The role:
Focus will be on payroll processing but will also focus on supporting some of the finance functions. There is room to grow this role into new finance areas, if the successful candidate is looking to grow their finance experience.
The role will manage:
- Weekly payroll processing for permanent and timesheet/casual staff
- Superannuation payments and complex calculations
- Termination and redundancy calculations
- Payroll summaries and reporting
- Accounts payable and receivable
- AP ledger management
- EOFY payroll and financial audits
- Advice to staff and managers on payroll and finance matter
The person must have:
- 5 years’ experience managing payroll functions
- Experience managing broader finance functions would be desirable
- Qualifications in payroll and finance/accounting
- Experience managing payroll for casual timesheets and rostering would be desirable
- Experience interpreting and applying different awards
- Full work rights in Australia mandatory
