About the Role
As Behaviour Support Plan Specialist, you’ll be central to the therapeutic care of Aboriginal children and young people in our Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) program.
You’ll lead the development of individualised Behaviour Support Plans—grounded in trauma-informed, person-centred practice—and work directly with children, families, carers, caseworkers and the wider KARI Clinic team to embed positive strategies into their everyday environments.
Your work will help ensure stability, safety, and long-term wellbeing, while also upskilling carers and teams to understand and respond to complex needs with confidence and compassion.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive, trauma-informed Behaviour Support Plans aligned to PSP and OOHC standards
Collaborate closely with carers, caseworkers, psychologists and external professionals
Use positive behaviour and strength-based approaches to reduce reliance on restrictive practices
Train and support carers and key support people in implementing strategies at home, school and in care
Deliver psycho-education on behaviour, trauma, attachment and regulation
Engage young people meaningfully in the plan development process where appropriate
Attend placement disruption and case review meetings
Contribute to a learning culture through reflective practice, training and team collaboration
Maintain partnerships with external stakeholders to inform and enrich practice
Eligibility
Valid NSW Working with Children’s Check – Paid Worker
NSW Driver’s Licence – minimum Provisional 2 (or equivalent)
Natitional Criminal History check upon commencement
Skills and Experience
Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or Allied Health
Experience as a Behaviour Support Practitioner within a trauma-informed model
Deep understanding of attachment, trauma, and the impacts of early adversity
Confidence in training others to apply therapeutic strategies
Knowledge of PSP, OOHC and child protection frameworks
Ability to build strong, respectful relationships with diverse stakeholders
Skilled at writing clear, evidence-based behaviour support documentation
Commitment to working in partnership with Aboriginal children, families and communities
