About the Role

As Behaviour Support Plan Specialist, you’ll be central to the therapeutic care of Aboriginal children and young people in our Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) program.

You’ll lead the development of individualised Behaviour Support Plans—grounded in trauma-informed, person-centred practice—and work directly with children, families, carers, caseworkers and the wider KARI Clinic team to embed positive strategies into their everyday environments.

Your work will help ensure stability, safety, and long-term wellbeing, while also upskilling carers and teams to understand and respond to complex needs with confidence and compassion.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Develop comprehensive, trauma-informed Behaviour Support Plans aligned to PSP and OOHC standards

Collaborate closely with carers, caseworkers, psychologists and external professionals

Use positive behaviour and strength-based approaches to reduce reliance on restrictive practices

Train and support carers and key support people in implementing strategies at home, school and in care

Deliver psycho-education on behaviour, trauma, attachment and regulation

Engage young people meaningfully in the plan development process where appropriate

Attend placement disruption and case review meetings

Contribute to a learning culture through reflective practice, training and team collaboration

Maintain partnerships with external stakeholders to inform and enrich practice

Eligibility

Valid NSW Working with Children’s Check – Paid Worker

NSW Driver’s Licence – minimum Provisional 2 (or equivalent)

Natitional Criminal History check upon commencement

Skills and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or Allied Health

Experience as a Behaviour Support Practitioner within a trauma-informed model

Deep understanding of attachment, trauma, and the impacts of early adversity

Confidence in training others to apply therapeutic strategies

Knowledge of PSP, OOHC and child protection frameworks

Ability to build strong, respectful relationships with diverse stakeholders

Skilled at writing clear, evidence-based behaviour support documentation

Commitment to working in partnership with Aboriginal children, families and communities

How to Apply

This is more than a clinical role—it’s a chance to lead from the heart, walking alongside children, families and carers to build stronger, safer futures through therapeutic care.
