The Role

Conduct workplace inspections and take enforcement action when health and safety laws are breached.

Gather evidence, prepare prosecution reports, make recommendations about prosecutions and present evidence in court as required.

Coordinate and/or undertake investigations of fatalities, traumatic accidents, and serious accidents.

Provide advice and information in accordance with Directorate procedures to management, government investigators and families of seriously injured or deceased persons.

Undertake complex and sensitive investigations and high level enforcement activity in line with Directorate programs and policies and the Directorate's Operational Plan.

Inspect electrical installations including regional/remote locations.

Prepare documentation required to enforce electrical, technical and safety legislation, prepare investigation and prosecution reports and present evidence in courts, to disciplinary bodies, and to the Electrical Licensing Board.

Undertake major audits of network operators' consumer installation inspection systems, network operators' supply systems and work practices.

Respond to requests for complex regulatory and technical information and prepare and deliver presentations and training in respect of electrical safety legislation and relevant standards.

Initiate and respond to correspondence and prepare documentation required for enforcing electrical safety legislation.

Liaise with employers, employees, unions and industry organisations to develop and maintain effective working relationships and secure commitment to Directorate objectives and the team's operational objectives and enhance confidence in the Public Service.

Mentor, coach and train Inspectors (Electricity).

Review and assess electrical safety systems.

Flexibility to undertake travel within the State is required.

Qualifications & Licences

Unrestricted electrical worker's licence endorsed "Electrician".

Certificate IV in Government Investigations or an ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of investigation practices.
