Our client is seeking a People, Culture & Safety Officer to join their team supporting programs that empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

This not-for-profit social enterprise is dedicated to building strong foundations and brighter futures for First Nations people. They deliver culturally grounded programs that promote community well-being, sporting, education, employment, and social development.

People & Culture Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate HR advice, resources, and training to managers and staff
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes
  • Draft contracts, variation letters, and formal employee communications
  • Maintain HR systems and personnel records in line with legislative requirements
  • Monitor staff training, qualifications, and licences for compliance and capability

WHS Responsibilities:

  • Support WHS compliance and maintain safety systems, policies, and procedures
  • Contribute to the WHS Plan and promote a positive safety culture
  • Assist with incident investigations, reporting, and root cause analysis
  • Support risk management initiatives and staff participation in WHS
  • Coordinate wellbeing and health and safety initiatives across the organisation

This role is primarily HR-focused, but requires a solid working understanding of WHS. While deep WHS expertise is not required, the successful candidate must be confident managing WHS compliance and reporting. Support structures are in place, and someone open to expanding their WHS knowledge or pursuing further training is desirable.

The requirements for this role include:

  • Aboriginality
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience across HR and WHS in a generalist or blended role
  • Strong understanding of WHS legislation and practical risk management strategies
  • Experience coordinating WHS activities, training, compliance, and investigations
  • Solid knowledge of contemporary HR practices, recruitment, onboarding, and employee lifecycle support
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Skilled in providing balanced, culturally informed solutions to HR and WHS matters
  • Confident in reporting, data analysis, and interpreting employment and safety legislation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative coaching style
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive issues
