About the Opportunity
Murrumbidgee and Southern Local Health Districts (LHD) are looking for a passionate Tobacco Compliance Officer, to join the Public Health Unit in this shared service role. From monitoring and enforcing key legislation, to responding to complaints and leading inspections, your work will play a vital role in reducing tobacco-related harm. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of public health, legislation, and community engagement.
As the Tobacco Compliance Officer, you will:
- Plan and deliver tobacco compliance programs in line with the Smoke-Free Environment Act 2000 and Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships, and contribute to strategy and advocacy efforts through state and local networks.
- Communicate, consult and negotiate effectively with Senior Executives, management and staff of Health or other Government agencies, non-Government agencies and indigenous and non-indigenous community groups and organisations.
- Use project management and coordination skills to respond appropriately to changing priorities and circumstances.

About You:
To be successful in this position, you will:
- Hold a recognised tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or Public Health or equivalent qualification in a health-related field or experience in a law enforcement and legislative compliance.
- Have a strong understanding of tobacco control legislation and is confident in leading compliance and enforcement activities.
- Be experienced in initiating and implementing education and enforcement activities.
- Hold a current drivers licence and be willing to travel long distances and stay overnight as required.
