Our Rockhampton service provides free alcohol and other drug counselling and support services, including support for youth and adult clients in Rockhampton and surrounding regions. You will work in a team of 6 other clinicians, led by our Team Leader who works from site also.

We are currently seeking a parental leave cover for a full time (38 hours a week) AOD Counsellor Case Manager contract position until end of March 2026.

Your opportunity

As an AOD Counsellor Case Manager, located in Rockhampton, you’ll engage and support your clients in their ongoing management, counselling, and treatment of AOD dependency and other associated factors. You’ll advocate for them, celebrate with them when they achieve their goals, and help to develop their capacity to move forward with confidence.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing high quality engagement, assessment, counselling, case management and support services to clients.
  • Management of a case load of clients (ages 12 and up) including service coordination, referral, and advocacy to support and assist clients in achieving their goals.
  • Engage stakeholders and build strong relationships with referring agencies to generate client appointments.
  • Participating in a rotating roster with other staff to provide extended hours of counselling through one late shift per week (10am – 6pm).

This position does work with complex client presentations. The sole focus of support is AOD, but case management requires supporting clients who come with complex issues of mental health, domestic and family violence, homelessness, financial concerns, but this is not limited to the clientele.

You will also have the opportunity to deliver some diversion work. This involves meeting with referred clients to provide assessments and counselling through brief interventions and psychoeducation.

The gross hourly pay rate for this role ranges between $44.59 and $47.99 per hour plus super and the opportunity to salary package. The salary on offer will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, knowledge and experience.

What you’ll bring

We're looking for someone with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, or a related health field.
  • Applied knowledge in contemporary evidence based AOD counselling practice, case management and intake and assessment.
  • Proficiency in conducting assessments, developing care plans, and delivering therapeutic interventions.
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.
  • Possess strong IT skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel and other applications.
  • Current Australian issued Drivers Licence and Working with Children Check (e.g., Blue Card) or the ability to obtain this.

What matters most is that you’ll live and breathe our values, which means:

  • You are humble, human, and full of hope.
  • You show up and share.
  • You ask: Why not? And what’s next?
  • You leave a positive wake.

And while you support others, we’ll support you with some great benefits, including:

  • An extra five paid leave days per year to support your wellbeing and work-life balance (pro rata for part time and maximum term contract staff)
  • Salary packaging to increase your take-home pay plus a meal and entertainment card.
  • Regular clinical supervision, case conferencing and debriefings.
  • Regular one-to-one and team meetings to promote inclusion and support within the team
  • Fitness Passport membership access to a wide range of gyms, pools, and fitness and leisure centres across Australia, at a discounted rate.
