The Opportunity:

As a Mechanical Product Development Engineer based in our head office in the eastern suburbs, you will assist in the design, development, proto-typing, testing and project-management of the realisation of our client’s product, from the time of conception to the point where they are delivered.

Such products could include all types of packaging and a broad range of industrial products.

You will work closely with our technical team and our talented team of experts across sourcing, manufacturing, engineering, quality control, logistics, consumer and B2B marketing.

Your main responsibilities

· Mechanical design. Interpretating our customers’ desires and aspirations into a design that can be produced in the most efficient way.

· Quality Control: Review samples from customers, benchmarking, factory tooling (pilot & commercial) for functionality, dimension, and visual requirements. Provide evaluations, conclusions, and recommendations from findings.

· Technical Support: Support the sourcing team in new product development by verifying factory product and manufacturing capabilities and identifying and addressing critical requirements for projects within timelines.

· Customer Service: Co-ordinate closely with other team members and factories to facilitate excellent customer service, especially through product development phase, and when managing challenges and resolutions.

· Business Development: Represent our company professionally and competently externally at conferences, site visits and digitally, growing existing customer accounts and nurturing new customer relationships by developing strategies and plans to increase sales.

· Product & Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for product improvements and facilitate continuous process improvement by ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

· Technical Compliance: Review and create inspection specs and technical documentation for products, ensuring all documentation is continuously updated in the company’s systems including:

- Design drawings

- Process capability reports

- Certificate of conformity declarations

- Material Certifications

- In house testing and measurements

- Corrective and Preventative Action Reports (CPAR)

- Factory assessment questionnaires and reports

About You

We are looking for an engaging professional with a technical background who is solutions driven and can think practically as well as commercially!

The engineer we are looking for is expected to have:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering

• A minimum of 3 years experience in product design

• Enthusiasm for mechanical design with a desire to get things done

• Ability to ‘translate’ customers’ requirements into a technical language of models and files

• Full command of a 3D modelling software such as ‘Inventor’ or similar

• Good communication skills

• Ability to transfer designs to manufacturing including creating the correct specifications, BoMs, and drawings (2D, 3D)

• Ability to work unsupervised, and progress projects on time, so no delays occur.

• Arrange for prototypes, tests and compliance when required.

• Some knowledge of plastics (injection, blow-moulding, extrusion), reinforced plastics, metals and other materials fabrication methods, characteristics and limitations.

• production orientated, ensuring that designs are suitable for production.

Some overseas travel may be required.
