About the Role

Turnkey Industrial Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer SMP with a strong background in the manufacturing industry to take ownership of detailed engineering and project delivery functions across our service and maintenance portfolio.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the quoting, procurement, detailed design, and work pack development for our skilled trades, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of industrial projects ranging from $100k to $500k in value.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare accurate and competitive quotations with supporting documentation and scope breakdowns.

Lead procurement activities, including supplier engagement, RFQs, and cost tracking.

Produce and review detailed mechanical and structural designs, fabrication drawings, and engineering documentation.

Develop work packs including ITPs, installation methodologies, BOMs, and mark-ups for fabrication and installation teams.

Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to ensure work is executable, resourced, and aligned with project timelines.

Conduct design reviews for structural steelwork, platforms, supports, pipework, and mechanical systems.

Maintain compliance with relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS/NZS 5131, AS 4100, ASME).

Integrate digital workflows using AI tools, Microsoft Co-Pilot, and Teams Approvals to automate routine processes and enhance design efficiency.

Maintain revision control and structured file management across project documentation.

Candidate Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.

Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical/structural engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Strong proficiency with design and drafting tools (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Plant 3D).

Demonstrated experience in structural steel and mechanical installation design.

Familiarity with Australian Standards and industry codes for mechanical and structural works.

Tech-savvy and capable of utilising AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Co-Pilot, Notion AI) to streamline daily tasks and documentation.

High attention to detail and a proactive, outcome-driven mindset.

Ability to work autonomously and as part of a cross-functional team under tight deadlines.
