About the role

Our Commonwealth Government client is seeking an experienced EL1-level professional to lead and manage the Finance Team and provide accurate and comprehensive financial management services for a digital transformation program.

An initial 12-month non-ongoing APS contract or a permanent s26 transfer (for ongoing APS employees) is on offer. This opportunity is available to candidates located in Canberra, ACT

Please note: the successful candidate must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a Baseline security clearance.

Duties:

• Support the day-to-day operations and resource planning of the Finance Team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and budget management.
• Draft, review, and refine written materials, including briefings, reports, procedures, and communications.
• Evaluate and integrate information from multiple sources to deliver strategic insights and recommendations to executive leadership.
• Foster productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the team in meetings and collaborative forums.
• Assist in shaping and implementing financial strategies, policies, and frameworks to enhance operational efficiency.
• Apply sound judgement and adaptability to make informed decisions in a fast-moving and complex environment.

Requisite skills/experience:
Essential:

• Proven ability to manage high workloads and competing priorities, while leading operational teams and effectively engaging with senior stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarise complex information and engage diverse audiences.
• Experience in producing detailed and sensitive documents, such as briefings, reports, and correspondence with a high level of accuracy.
• Skilled in building strategic relationships and communicating decisions with sound professional judgement.

Desirable:

• Experience in delivering management accounting services and financial advice to support executive decision-making.
• Skilled in managing and analysing large, complex data sets to inform financial and budgetary outcomes.
• Solid understanding of financial and asset management accounting principles.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite and understanding of financial accounting systems.
• Demonstrated ability to develop accurate costings for budget proposals within government frameworks.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications, with preference for CPA or CA membership (or currently working towards it).
