About Power Connect
Power Connect is a fast-growing Australian business specialising in advanced off-grid and hybrid power solutions. We provide modular, rugged, and intelligent energy systems to support remote sites, construction operations, temporary power needs, and stand-alone applications across Australia. Our innovative solutions integrate solar, battery storage, diesel generation, and smart energy management systems to deliver reliable, efficient, and scalable power.
Position Overview
The Off-Grid Power System Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and optimisation of off-grid and hybrid power systems. This role requires deep technical knowledge across electrical and power systems, including batteries, inverters, solar PV, charge controllers, energy management systems (EMS), and diesel integration. You will be responsible for delivering safe, cost-effective, and scalable system designs for use in transportable, modular, or containerised power solutions.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Engineering
Design complete off-grid and hybrid power systems (10kWh to 5MWh+), integrating batteries, inverters, solar, and generators.
Develop single line diagrams (SLDs), system schematics, and electrical layout drawings using CAD software.
Size and select appropriate components, including BESS, MPPT controllers, inverters, EMS/BMS units, and protection systems.
Product Development
Assist in the development of modular, pre-wired cabinet and skid-mounted energy systems.
Work closely with fabrication partners and suppliers to ensure designs are fit-for-manufacture.
Prototype and iterate designs based on field performance, cost, safety, and reliability.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5139, AS/NZS 4777, etc.).
Prepare technical documentation for certification, electrical inspections, and project handover.
Project Support
Support internal teams and customers with technical advice during installation and commissioning.
Troubleshoot and optimise installed systems, both remotely and on-site when required.
R&D & Innovation
Stay abreast of new technologies in batteries, EMS platforms, hybrid controls, and solar integration.
Recommend improvements to increase system performance, durability, and cost competitiveness.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or equivalent.
3+ years’ experience in designing off-grid or hybrid power systems.
Strong understanding of lithium battery systems, inverter technologies, and solar PV design.
Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent).
Familiarity with energy management systems and remote monitoring platforms.
Sound knowledge of relevant Australian electrical standards and regulations.
Desirable:
Experience with modular cabinet/system design for commercial or industrial deployment.
Working knowledge of EMS platforms such as Victron, Selectronic, SMA, or Deye.
Practical experience in commissioning and fault diagnosis of energy systems.
Ability to work independently in a small, agile team and manage multiple projects.
What We Offer
Competitive salary with performance-based incentives.
Opportunity to shape the future of clean, off-grid energy in a growing company.
Supportive team culture with a strong focus on innovation and practical delivery.
Flexibility and ownership of your work
