Position Overview
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for driving sales and customer acquisition for Power Connect’s range of both permenant and temporary hybrid power systems. Based in Melbourne, this role will lead market engagement across Victoria and nationally, targeting sectors such as infrastructure, civil construction, resources, and temporary power deployment.
We’re seeking a seasoned power systems sales professional with deep industry knowledge, strong commercial acumen, and an existing network. You’ll play a critical role in helping customers transition from traditional diesel to smart, hybrid solutions that reduce fuel burn, emissions, and maintenance costs.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Market Growth
Identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities for hybrid power systems ranging from 30kW to 1MW.
Develop and manage a sales pipeline across key sectors including infrastructure, mining, construction, events, utilities, and government.
Deliver tailored client proposals highlighting performance, cost benefits, and system flexibility.
Client Engagement & Account Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with project managers, procurement teams, and technical stakeholders.
Conduct in-person and virtual presentations, demonstrations, and site assessments.
Provide regular account follow-ups, and ensure client satisfaction from proposal through to delivery.
Commercial & Technical Interface
Work closely with engineering teams to ensure client needs are accurately translated into system designs and proposals.
Assist with tender submissions, pricing strategies, and negotiation of commercial terms.
Communicate the technical and financial benefits of hybrid systems clearly and confidently.
Industry & Brand Development
Represent Power Connect at key industry forums, conferences, and events.
Stay abreast of competitor offerings, market shifts, and client pain points to position Power Connect effectively.
Provide market feedback to internal teams to support product development and customer support strategies.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
5+ years of experience in sales or business development within power systems, temporary energy, or related sectors.
Proven ability to sell into commercial, industrial, or infrastructure-based clients.
Deep understanding of diesel generation, energy storage, solar integration, and hybrid system value propositions.
Existing network of contacts across key target industries.
Demonstrated ability to manage long sales cycles and close high-value equipment or project-based sales.
Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable:
Prior experience with companies delivering distributed or temporary energy (e.g. generator hire firms, energy integrators, or solar/BESS providers).
Familiarity with EMS/BMS platforms and remote energy monitoring.
Knowledge of power system regulatory and safety requirements in Australia.
