About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a motivated and qualified professional to join our Planning and Certification team as a Development Planner. This is a key role responsible for assessing development applications, subdivision and planning certificates, and providing accurate and timely planning advice to a broad range of stakeholders.
As a Development Planner, you will contribute to the sustainable growth and development of our community, ensuring projects align with planning legislation and Council’s strategic objectives.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform planning functions under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, including assessing and determining Development Applications, Subdivision Certificate applications, and issuing planning certificates.
- Deliver planning guidance through Council’s pre-lodgement advisory service.
- Investigate, resolve, and respond to complaints or inquiries related to land use, supporting enforcement actions when required.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure a coordinated, informed approach to development across the Council.
- Contribute to the strategic land-use planning and policy development within the Shire.
- Assist in the development and review of planning policies and procedures.
- Support internal teams and external customers with the use of the NSW Planning Portal, including adapting to system updates and process improvements.

About You
To excel in this role you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline.
- Demonstrated contemporary experience in a similar role, coupled with ongoing professional development to support contemporary knowledge
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to foster working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Current and maintained SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card).
- Current and maintained NSW Driver’s Licence.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Knowledge of the role, functions, and responsibilities of Local Government.
- Knowledge and experience in assessment of complex development applications and strategic planning projects.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.
The role has been evaluated as being Grade 14 of the Council's salary structure and offers a competitive salary circa $88,600 - $101,800 (depending on skills and experience) plus super and salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay.
