Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) is seeking a committed and capable Heritage Advisor to join our Cultural Heritage Unit. This is a unique opportunity to support culturally respectful outcomes and uphold Wadawurrung values across Country.
About the Role
This flexible, full-time role offers the opportunity to work from home, with travel across Wadawurrung Country as needed. You will play a vital role in protecting and managing Wadawurrung cultural heritage assessing Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs), engaging with consultants and land users, conducting site inspections, contributing to cultural mapping, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and cultural protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to CHMP and permit referrals under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic)
Provide advice to consultants, agencies, and land users on heritage matters
Attend statutory meetings and participate in cultural heritage assessments
Contribute to cultural mapping, site assessments, and data management
Participate in non-statutory heritage projects, including sensitive sites and landscapes
Build respectful relationships with Traditional Owners and stakeholders
Ensure all work reflects Wadawurrung cultural values and governance frameworks
About You
Tertiary qualifications in archaeology, cultural heritage management, or a related field
Minimum 2 years’ experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage management in Victoria
Working knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) and related regulations
Skills in interpreting cultural heritage conditions, CHMP processes, and compliance
Strong report writing, computer literacy, and attention to detail with a strong sense of purpose and care for Country
