About the Role
The WA DFES Bushfire Centre of Excellence – a leading hub of bushfire management, knowledge, training and research – is seeking an experienced and visionary Executive Manager Bushfire Knowledge to lead its knowledge and innovation programs.
As a strategic leader and subject matter expert, you will shape the future of bushfire management across Western Australia. You'll work collaboratively with Traditional Owners, government agencies, research institutions, and the community to drive evidence-based practices, support innovation, and foster cultural and scientific knowledge exchange.
As the Executive Manager Bushfire Knowledge, you will:
Lead the development and implementation of knowledge and innovation strategies aligned with bushfire management best practice in WA.
Drive partnerships with research bodies, Traditional Custodians, emergency services, and community organisations.
Translate complex research and traditional ecological knowledge into accessible, practical bushfire management practices.
Provide authoritative advice to senior government and emergency management stakeholders.
Champion a culture of continuous learning, inclusion, and cultural respect in fire knowledge systems.
Represent the Bushfire Centre of Excellence at conferences, forums, and high-level interagency working groups.
We are looking for a respected leader with:
Strong experience in bushfire management, fire ecology, emergency services, or a related field.
Proven track record of building and sustaining strategic partnerships and knowledge networks.
Deep understanding of, and commitment to, integrating Indigenous fire knowledge and cultural practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex programs, and communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
Excellent stakeholder engagement, policy, and communication skills.
Experience in a government or research context will be highly regarded.

National Police Certificate
A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) is provided prior to commencement.
