About You:

As an experienced HSE Manager, you bring a proven track record of success in Health, Safety, and Environmental leadership roles, preferably within the construction industry. You possess an in-depth understanding of Work Health & Safety legislation, construction safety standards, and risk management principles. You are confident in managing complex safety requirements across multiple project phases and diverse work environments.

In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation and continual improvement of comprehensive health, safety, and environmental systems across our construction sites. You will monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, conduct thorough risk assessments, and provide expert guidance to project teams and personnel. Your leadership is essential in promoting the well-being of our workforce and supporting the sustainable delivery of our projects.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated experience in a management-level health, safety, and environment role within the construction or a related industry. You will have a strong knowledge of Northern Territory Work Health & Safety legislation, codes of practice, and environmental regulations.

You will have a proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain ISO-accredited health, safety, and environmental management systems.

Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits is essential. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to engage and influence teams at all levels effectively. Strong leadership abilities are required, as you will inspire and motivate others to foster a culture of safety throughout the organisation.

Relevant qualifications in Work, Health & Safety are essential, and a qualification in training and assessment is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with project managers, site supervisors, and other key stakeholders. Flexibility and willingness to travel to various project locations across the Northern Territory are also required.

Essential Requirements:

· Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or related field

· Proven experience in health and safety management roles

· Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and ensure the organisation’s compliance with all applicable regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.

Implement, monitor, and maintain ISO accreditation standards across the business.

Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for construction projects and develop mitigation strategies to manage identified hazards.

Design, deliver, and oversee safety training programs to enhance awareness and compliance among all personnel.

Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending preventative actions.

Prepare and present detailed reports on HSE performance, incident trends, and improvement initiatives.

Develop, implement, and regularly test emergency response plans to safeguard personnel and minimize environmental impact.

Monitor environmental compliance on construction sites and oversee waste management and recycling programs.

Perform regular safety audits and inspections, collaborating closely with project managers and site supervisors to resolve safety issues promptly.

Provide guidance, supervision, and development opportunities to workers within the organisation.

Ensure all activities comply with NT Work Health and Safety legislation, relevant codes of practice, and M+J Builders’ HSE policies and procedures.

Adhere to the requirements outlined in the Site-Specific Safety Management Plan Annexure B - Project Roles and Responsibilities.

· Experience with ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems

· Background in OFSC accreditation processes and requirements

· Proven track record of successful audit management and compliance delivery

Educational Requirements & Relevant Experience:

· General construction induction training card – White Card

· Drivers Licence

· Qualification in Work, Health & Safety

· Qualification in Training and Assessment, high desirable
