The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to recruit several Logistics Project Officers for our Census Logistics, Mail & Print team. These are temporary positions up to two years duration. The successful applicants will initially be engaged on an 18 month contract, with a further contract extension up to six months.

About the role

The Logistics, Mail and Print team manages end-to-end integrated logistical services, material production, and mail and print capabilities to support 2026 Census field operations.

We seek enthusiastic team members to assist management of one of three logistics streams that play a vital role in enabling field operations: mainstream, remote and special strategies.

Key responsibilities include:

• collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand field equipment requirements for the 2026 Census Main Event
• oversee the collection and distribution of materials to field staff
• liaise with and maintain relationships with external suppliers of field equipment and printed materials
• assist with coordinating, reviewing, and developing team Standard Operating Procedures and knowledge documents
• manage and maintain invoicing (bulk materials and small-scale procurements)
• maintain agenda items and action points during internal consultation with Census teams
• review quality assurance documentation and processes for multiple project streams
• assist with review and coordination of multiple operational plan documents
• assist with other daily operational activities and support team members where required.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

• a positive attitude whilst working under pressure in a team environment
• problem solving skills and initiative in issue identification
• ability to work under minimal supervision and able to progress work without waiting for instruction or specific direction
• an ability to understand the requirements of internal and external clients, and where applicable, liaise, communicate and provide assistance
• ability to use a range of standard ABS software packages to complete tasks including IBM Lotus Notes Applications, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Applications
• capability to apply correct procedures and to exercise judgement within those procedures
• ability to manage relationships and liaise with multiple stakeholders.
