A temporary opportunity for a Conservation Ecologist with strong adaptive management science and quantitative skills to join a passionate team responsible for building resilience in the landscape and achieving long-term nature conservation outcomes in the ACT.
This position is within the ACT Government's Office of Nature Conservation (ONC), which brings together policy, science, and data expertise to accelerate unified thinking and action to respond to the immense conservation challenges facing the ACT. This cross-thematic role provides scientific expertise, monitoring rigour, and quantitative evaluations to help facilitate the practice of adaptive management in the ACT. The preferred candidate will have a broad range of skills and experiences in designing, undertaking, analysing and communicating research with a strong focus on management effectiveness both within and beyond the ACT. The position primarily focusses on knowledge-synthesis and data-analysis, playing a significant quantitative role in using and interpreting ecological data for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
- Using ecological data to address questions of management significance, assess ecological condition, and evaluate outcomes against key objectives.
- Contributing to the planning, designing and implementing ecological research and monitoring programs, including experimental design, data collection, spatialisation, review and analysis.
- Ensuring projects are developed in collaboration with the community and end-users, and are well-coordinated with other government teams working in related areas.
- Assisting in the provision of technical information and advice on the protection and appropriate management of resilient ecosystems to a range of government and non-government stakeholders.
Eligibility/Other Requirements: This position requires tertiary qualifications in ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, or similar fields.
Note: This is a temporary full-time position available immediately until 20 February 2026, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. A Merit Pool may be established from this selection process to be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

This position will be in a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers do not have a designated workstation/desk.
