We're looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to join our team as a Parental Leave Replacement until 31 December 2026. In this role, you'll take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function, maintain system integrity, and lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and compliance. What you'll do:
Reporting to the Payroll Team Leader, you will play a key role in Council's payroll operations, responsible for maintaining compliance with legislation and enterprise agreements, managing system processes, and ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery. You'll also support annual reporting, budget preparation, and year-end financial requirements as well as supporting People and Culture with insights, compliance, and system improvements.
This role will commence in August with a handover period.
You will:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of Council's payroll system, including process improvements.
- Be responsible for end-to-end payroll accuracy and timely processing.
- Answer payroll queries from staff, government agencies, and external partners.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, Council's Enterprise Agreement, and internal policies.
- Interpret employment conditions and provide accurate advice to employees, in collaboration with HR.
- Provide payroll data and reports for budgeting, grants, WorkCover, superannuation, and other payments.
- Maintain accurate payroll procedures, documentation, and database integrity.
- Complete year-end processes including salary accruals and leave liability reporting.
- Assist in system testing and updates for the payroll module (Civica).
- Support budget development through payroll forecasting and data analysis.
Who and what we are looking for (skills and experience). You'll have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance or related discipline and some relevant experience is desired or substantial experience in a similar role.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in payroll or similar role.
- Experience with payroll systems, financial systems and computer applications.
- Prior experience in the preparation of a large payroll service, including the interpretation and administration of employment legislation.
- Demonstrate the ability to efficiently and accurately process the end-to-end payroll function, including processing wages, STP, superannuation and WorkCover, and the interpretation of employment legislation.
- Demonstrate organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide and report accurate information and reports.
- Experience working with a range of systems and databases.
- A demonstrated understanding of accounting principles and the impact of the payroll functions.

- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.

- A full-time parental leave cover position (to 31 December 2026) with a monthly RDO
- Salary of $94,475.99 - $102,712.38 per annum plus super.
