About the role
The Accountant is responsible for the financial operations for our business. This role encompasses monthly accounting reports, cash flow management, creditor and debtor oversight, payroll processing, HR support, payroll tax compliance, and insurance policy administration. This role is a permanent part time 0.6 FTE.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare, review, and deliver accurate and timely monthly financial reports and reconciliations.
Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and classified.
Manage daily, weekly, and monthly cash flow monitoring, reporting, and forecasting.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely creditor payments and proactive debtor follow-up.
Continuously improve internal accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
2. Payroll & People Support
Manage the full payroll cycle, including award interpretation, superannuation, leave accruals, and statutory deductions.
Ensure payroll compliance with Fair Work, ATO, and other regulatory requirements.
Provide HR administrative support, including employee onboarding, record keeping, and leave management.
3. Compliance & Taxation
Prepare and lodge payroll tax, monthly IAS, and other periodic returns in line with statutory deadlines.
Assist with BAS, GST, PAYG, and other tax-related obligations.
Coordinate WorkCover and other insurance declarations annually.
4. Risk & Insurance Management
Manage and administer all business insurance policies (e.g., public liability, professional indemnity, WorkCover).
Work with brokers to ensure appropriate risk coverage aligned to business needs.
Maintain risk registers and ensure proactive mitigation of financial and operational risks.
5. Stock Management & BOM Oversight
Oversee stock control and inventory systems, ensuring accurate records of materials and finished goods.
Coordinate and reconcile regular stocktakes, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
Work closely with production and operations teams to understand and manage bills of materials (BOMs), ensuring accurate costing and stock allocation.
Identify opportunities to optimise stock levels, reduce waste, and improve working capital.
6. Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as the primary liaison with external accountants, auditors, and advisors for quarterly and year-end reporting.
Provide accurate, timely financial data and insights to support decision-making.
Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes.
