Salary Range: $149,739 - $173,174 per annum plus superannuation

Exciting opportunities are available as a Managing Lawyer within the Digital & Platforms stream of our Department of Customer Service (DCS) Legal Division.
The DCS Legal team supports a range of portfolio business clients including Building Commission NSW, Digital.NSW, NSW Fair Trading, NSW Telco Authority, the Principal Department, SafeWork NSW, Service NSW, and the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA).
Reporting to an Assistant General Counsel, our Managing Lawyers Digital & Platforms, lead and manage a team of lawyers providing expert legal services on a broad range of digital and digital commercial matters that support the agency's strategic and operational priorities.
You will be working in a dynamic, agile environment applying your legal subject matter expertise across diverse ICT, digital, and digital transformation initiatives, projects and transactions, including whole of government projects and inter-agency initiatives.
You will have carriage of various ICT, digital, and digital commercial matters across DCS portfolio, representing Legal Division in the provision of independent, accurate, timely and expert legal services.
You will also lead a small team providing legal advice and services in all aspects of commercial law, policy and procurement related to digital and platforms.
The professional in this role will need to:
- Provide operational management of a team of lawyers, sharing expertise and insight fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous development.
- Provide strategic, pragmatic, focused and accountable specialist legal advice and strategy across a range of ICT, digital and digital commercial areas.
- Confidently lead, conduct, and support complex commercial negotiations to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and successful delivery of outcomes for major projects.
- Advise, draft, review, and negotiate a range of documents and agreements including for software acquisition/licensing, product development, intellectual property in information technology, digital transformation, and cloud service delivery.
- Be adept at working with a variety of stakeholders to interpret and distil complex legal issues in the preparation of contractual and other documentation to ensure that statutory, ethical, probity and other legal obligations are properly addressed.
About you:
- You are admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and hold or, be eligible to hold a current practising certificate as a solicitor.
- You have a minimum of 7 years relevant post qualification in two or more of the following areas in in either private, in-house corporate or government practice:
- Digital and Technology law
- Corporate and Commercial law.
- Intellectual Property (IP) law
- Trade practices law
- Information access and privacy law
- You have advanced analytical, lateral thinking and problem-solving skills, including an ability to apply legal principles in a practical way.
- You are a motivated and effective communicator with great initiative. You can work with diverse clients, other lawyers, and a proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with key stakeholders across all levels to support optimal delivery outcomes.
- You are a client focussed team player with great initiative, who thrives managing competing deadlines and priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- You are experienced at creating and fostering high-performing teams.
