Role: Managing Lawyer, Advisory - multiple opportunities
Location: Based principally in Sydney CBD (McKell) near Central Station, with hybrid working arrangements available.
Grade: Clerk Grade 11/12
Salary Range: Base $149,739 - $173,174 per annum plus super
Employment Type: Multiple opportunities, ongoing, Full-Time

Exciting opportunities are available as a Managing Lawyer Advisory within the Legislation and Advice streams of our Department of Customer Service (DCS) Legal Division.
The DCS Legal team supports a diverse business portfolio including Service NSW, Revenue NSW, Digital.NSW, NSW Fair Trading, NSW Telco Authority, SafeWork NSW, the Building Commission NSW, Births, Deaths and Marriages, and the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA).
Reporting to either the Assistant General Counsel Legislation & Advice or, the Assistant General Counsel Regulator Advisory our Managing Lawyers, Advisory lead and manage a team of advisory lawyers in the provision of independent, accurate, timely and expert legal services that support the agency's strategic, operational, and legislative priorities.
You will be working in an interesting and fast paced regulatory environment, joining a passionate and motivated group of professionals providing legal advisory services on a broad range of matters, leveraging your proven skills and experience in statutory interpretation, administrative law, and legal frameworks underpinning government operations
To be successful in this role it is essential that you are a motivated and effective communicator with great initiative, who can work with diverse clients, other lawyers, and can manage competing deadlines and priorities. You will also be adept at creating and fostering high-performing teams.
The person in this role will need to:
Provide operational management of a team of advisory lawyers with a variety of career experience fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous development.
Provide guidance on statutory interpretation, legislative reform, administrative law and, legal frameworks underpinning government operations, leveraging your own extensive career experience.
Work collaboratively with customers and key stakeholders across legislative projects, ensuring legal compliance, sound governance, and the achievement of strategic objectives.
Deliver legal services in a dynamic and complex working environment of competing priorities while delivering practical, defensible, risk based legal services on a diverse range of specialist issues
About You:
- You will hold Bachelor of Laws or equivalent degree qualification and have relevant post qualification experience as a lawyer
- You are admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and hold a current NSW Practising Certificate
- You will have strong analytical ability, lateral thinking and problem-solving skills including strong negotiation, advocacy and stakeholder management capability.
- You can confidently manage legal risk prioritising time sensitive matters, handling large volumes of work and managing deadlines.
- You will have strong experience in managing and developing people including a diverse team of lawyers at different stages of their career.
- Experience in working for government departments/agencies as an external adviser or inhouse lawyer would be desirable.
