Period of Appointment

2 years from appointment

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Duties
  • Liaise and consult with the Supreme Court, Tasmania Police, defence counsel and prosecutors in relation to criminal files and case management of criminal matters.
  • Producing and processing Court Orders and Police files.
  • To conduct preliminary, interlocutory and ancillary matters relating to criminal proceedings:
  • To conduct summary prosecutions on behalf of the State of Tasmania, its instrumentalities and agencies before the Magistrate Court and Tribunals;
  • To conduct Child Safety Matters and appeals on behalf of the State of Tasmania before a range of courts and tribunals and;
  • To conduct criminal matters on behalf of the State of Tasmania, its instrumentalities and Agencies before the Supreme Court, Magistrates Court and Tribunals.
  • To act as Solicitor and Counsel in such other litigious matters involving the State of Tasmania, its instrumentalities and Agencies before the Supreme Court, Magistrates Court (all divisions) and Tribunals as may be allocated by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
  • To assist more experienced legal practitioners in relation to routine and complex criminal matters.
  • To provide legal advice to the Director and other agencies and instrumentalities.
  • To act as solicitor for applications pursuant to the Crimes Compensation and Profits Act, and the Dangerous Criminal and High Risk Offenders Act.
Essential Requirements
  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
  • Drivers licence.
