The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking 2X Industry Senior Officer - Kitchen, to provide a critical role within Custodial Operations / Corrections Victoria.
About the Business Unit
HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne and is part of the Barwon South-west Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The prison officially opened in January 1990 and currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection (including specialist protection), general mainstream (maximum security) and medium security prisoners.
This position is a shift-based and rostered role, which includes weekend work.
The Vocational Services Team consists of the three key portfolios, education, programs, and industries. The role of the team is to prepare prisoners for release and to enhance post release employment opportunities through prisoner employment, integrated on the job training, targeted educational opportunities and personal development programs and activities.
About the Role
Prison Industry Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within a prisoner industry or service industry under the guidance of a Prison Industry Supervisor. The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners, along with highly developed communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
All functional areas within the kitchen/catering portfolio operate as a vocational training environment. The Industry Supervisor supports Industry Officers to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners, placing emphasis upon individual offender management with a view to rehabilitation.
Some of your duties will include:
- Supervise achievement of commercial production targets and customer expectations, develop and monitor the budget, procure goods and services; ensure security, Occupational Health and Safety and food safety compliance is adhered to.
- Actively identify, refer, and support prisoners' participation in integrated education into prisoner employment.
- Deliver against production performance targets, industry requirements and Occupational Health and Safety, and food safety compliance.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to reducing re-offending.
- A demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of modern industry techniques and the maintenance of industry equipment.
- Demonstrated understanding of processes and procedures in accordance with the Prison Industries Management manual.
Qualifications
- Qualification or experience relevant to the food service industry would be desirable.
- The successful applicant will be required to complete Prison Officer Pre Service Training on commencement if not previously completed.
