The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking 5 x Senior Prison Officer's to provide a critical role at Loddon Prison.

About the Business Unit

Located at Castlemaine, Loddon Prison is a 477 bed Medium Security Prison for sentenced male prisoners. Adjacent to Loddon Prison is Middleton, a 236 bed Restricted Minimum Security Prison for sentenced male prisoners. The focus of both prisons is rehabilitation via individual case management, employment, education, training and also the provision of programs and targeted interventions to address offending behaviour and promote the development of prosocial behaviour. Both prisons provide contemporary and quality correctional services that prepare prisoners for transition and reintegration.

About the Role

Senior Prison Officers can be responsible for the day-to-day management of prisoner accommodation. The Senior Prison Officer must have the ability to manage the day-to-day operations of a team of Prison Officers and the case management of more complex or difficult offenders. Offender management involves working in a team environment with other professionals to optimise the opportunities for rehabilitation through all aspects of the day-to-day routines, services and programs of the facility.

Senior Prison Officers model and reinforce behaviour and thinking within their team, and with prisoners that assists the individual prisoner's ability to change their behaviour and contribute in a positive manner to the community upon release.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Coordinate the day to day operations of a team of Prison Officers.
  • Work with all members of the prison to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes maintenance of the integrity of both the external and internal security of the facility, appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and ensuring compliance with security and safety procedures.
  • Manage a case load of offenders, including more difficult and complex offenders, in accordance with the requirements of offender management practices, liaising with the various Clinical, Vocational, Personal Development and Reintegration Service staff, to meet the identified needs of offenders.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Computer Skills - Effectively use departmental computer systems for basic word processing, email, appointment scheduling, internet and intranet functions.

Qualifications/requirements

  • Prison Officer Pre Service Training.
