West Coast Council are looking for a new Community & Grants Officer to join our team, to work closely with the community to develop programs and projects that promote participation, engagement and capacity building across our communities. Coordinate grant applications, acquittals, key milestone communication and reports.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To support Council in facilitating the development and implementation of initiatives, programs and projects that promote engagement, participation, inclusion, and capacity building of the wider community.

Key Responsibilities

Support Council and the local community to determine and develop goals, objectives and strategies, that align with the Community Plan, and policies as required.

Engage with community groups to maintain open communication and stay informed about their concerns, particularly regarding specific projects.

Maintain an effective communications network with all stakeholders including community members and groups, service providers and business to determine sustainable processes that enhance community capacity.

Administer Council’s community grants and in-kind program.

Identify funding opportunities that align with Council’s strategic projects.

Provide strategic and operational advice to the General Manager on issues related to community and social advancement with a focus on: Health and Active Lifestyles, Community Capacity Building, Economic development / demography.

Provide input to the Council-wide development of policies, strategies and plans.

Accountability

Managing the budgets of assigned projects under authority of the Team Leader of Growth & Change.

Ensuring that resources are efficiently used to achieve assigned tasks.

Undertaking work without direct supervision, daily/ weekly planning and supervision of the assigned team and assigned tasks.

Ensuring that staff and contractors (when assigned for specific projects) follow relevant policies, directives, and work standards.

Interpersonal Skills

Highly developed customer services skills.

Ability to work in a team and to exercise tact, discretion, and sound judgement.

Demonstrate a courteous disposition and a helpful and friendly demeanour.

Qualifications and Experience

Completion of post-secondary qualifications in a relevant area will be highly regarded

Working with Vulnerable People (or willing to obtain).
