Assistant Accountant (Temp / Casual)

Location: Laverton North Recycling, VIC
Department: Finance & Administration (Recycling)
Duration: 3-6 months (with potential for extension)
Start Date: ASAP (handover period available)
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 p.a. (pro-rata, depending on experience)

About the Role

One of Australia's leading steel manufacturers is seeking a Temporary Assistant Accountant to join their Recycling division in Laverton. This plant plays a key role in the company's national recycling operations.

This role will provide accounting and reporting support during a period of extended personal leave within the team. Working closely with the on-site finance team, you'll be involved in financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, and process improvements.

The role is ideal for someone enrolled in the CA or CPA program, or who has recently completed it, and is looking to grow their accounting experience in a fast-paced, supportive environment.

We're looking for someone who can start as soon as possible to allow for a handover period.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with month-end accounting and financial reporting
• Prepare and review reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
• Support compliance and internal audit processes
• Contribute to the development of financial and management reports
• Help automate reporting processes using Excel and other tools
• Provide support to Commercial and Business Support teams as needed
• Promote safety and compliance in all work activities

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
• Enrolled in the CA or CPA program (or recently completed)
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Teams
• Exposure to SAP, Power BI, or data automation tools (preferred)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
