Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we advocate for a fairer Australia, to meet the growing needs of people across the country. Together we're building hope and possibility for all. Find out more about us and our purpose.

Your opportunity
At Mission Australia, we believe everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home.

As the Contracting Lead, Housing Growth Projects, you'll lead the commercial, legal, and governance aspects of various Housing Growth projects, helping to create new housing solutions that directly support vulnerable communities across Australia.

You'll work alongside executives, legal and operational teams, and external partners to shape project frameworks, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and guide strategic decisions that uphold Mission Australia's values and risk tolerance.

This is your opportunity to help build the foundation for long-term housing impact, one contract, one project, one community at a time.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Drive the end-to-end contracting process for Housing Growth projects, ensuring agreements are commercially sound, mission-aligned, and support project success.
  • Manage relationships with external legal advisers and collaborate closely with Mission Australia's Legal, Risk, Finance, and Governance teams to secure preferred contractual outcomes.
  • Ensure all Housing Growth projects meet legal, financial, and regulatory standards, including risk assessment, insurance, and entity creation.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance on commercial structures, negotiations, and project delivery to senior leaders and executive stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project risk registers, support compliance reporting, and contribute to contract lifecycle management and assurance activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, funders, developers, and industry experts to achieve shared outcomes and raise Mission Australia's profile.
  • Prepare and contribute to board papers and governance committee discussions to ensure key project decisions are timely, informed, and within risk tolerance.
  • Identify and implement improvements in contracting processes, governance tools, and commercial practices to enhance project delivery and long-term impact.

Requirements for success

  • Proven ability to drive commercial outcomes, manage complex contracts, and balance financial performance with mission-aligned impact.
  • Extensive experience negotiating, drafting, and managing contracts within large-scale development or infrastructure projects, ideally in housing or social impact sectors.
  • Deep understanding of how infrastructure and property development projects are financed.
  • Deep understanding of governance, legal, and regulatory frameworks, with the ability to proactively identify and manage risk across project lifecycles.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships and influence across a wide range of stakeholders, including executives, government, legal advisors, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated success working across internal teams (Legal, Finance, Risk, Operations, Governance) to deliver aligned and sustainable project outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the housing or not-for-profit landscape, including regulatory entities and funding structures, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills with a respectful, inclusive, and thoughtful approach across diverse stakeholders, including boards.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Your benefits

  • Rewarding work - every day you know you're making a real difference
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay)
  • Free external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support
  • Volunteering opportunities
