Cloud Platform Engineering Principal

Clerk Grade: 11/12, base salary starting at $149,739 - $173,174 plus superannuation
Employment Type: Ongoing, Full-time
Location: Sydney - McKell and Parramatta office locations with at least 3 days in the office per week

The Cloud Infrastructure Platform Engineering Team Lead, positioned within the Enterprise Infrastructure Operations Division in the Cloud Computing team, will drive the engineering and implementation of cloud services across AWS and Azure environments, focusing on building scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure solutions.

This technical leader will use a hands-on approach guide a team of developers responsible for creating the organization's shared cloud platform services while systematically addressing technical debt, implementing infrastructure as code, agile development practices and pipelines, establishing robust monitoring and security frameworks. They will collaborate with product management and architecture to align infrastructure capabilities with business needs while ensuring compliance requirements are met and properly documented.

This role requires a dynamic leader with a developer background who can effectively balance hands-on technical expertise with team management responsibilities within the Enterprise Infrastructure Operations Division.

The successful candidate will mentor team members, foster their technical growth, and cultivate a customer-focused culture that delivers high-quality cloud services. They will manage team priorities and resources, be hands on creating code and leading by example, and establish clear documentation practices for all services and processes. This position plays a critical role in the organization's technology strategy by driving standardization, security, and operational excellence across cloud environments as a key member of the Cloud Computing team.

About the team
You'll build and lead a high-performing cloud platform engineering team tasked with transforming our AWS and Azure infrastructure into a next-generation environment, uplifting, automating our existing cloud platform and removing technical debt while pioneering new mode 2 operating models that will set the technological foundation for our entire organization's future growth and innovation.

Your day-to-day

  • Pioneer the transformation of our multi-cloud strategy, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to establish a competitive advantage in how we deliver and manage cloud services across the enterprise
  • Implement advanced automation pipelines that dramatically reduce deployment times and eliminate manual processes, positioning our infrastructure capabilities at industry-leading levels
  • Develop a talent acceleration program within your team that creates the next generation of cloud experts through hands-on mentoring and exposure to complex infrastructure challenges
  • Lead the strategic evolution from traditional infrastructure management to a modern platform engineering approach, empowering developers with self-service capabilities that accelerate innovation
  • Establish a security-by-design framework that becomes a model for the entire organization, balancing robust protection with operational agility
  • Drive the transition to infrastructure-as-code practices that enable unprecedented scalability and repeatability across our global technology footprint

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Deep technical and senior developer expertise across AWS and Azure environments, with a proven track record of personally implementing enterprise-scale cloud solutions using modern infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience building and mentoring high-performing technical engineering teams using agile methodologies
  • Experience driving organizational transformation from traditional mode 1 models to cloud-native platform approaches, with demonstrable success in mode 2 infrastructure implementation
  • Excellence in balancing technical priorities with business objectives, ensuring cloud platforms deliver tangible value while maintaining security, compliance, and operational stability
  • Passion for continuous improvement and automation, with a solutions-oriented mindset that thrives on solving complex infrastructure challenges
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to stakeholders at all levels and foster collaboration across organizational boundaries
