A well-known Australian retail brand with hundreds of physical locations is scaling its digital and infrastructure platforms. This role sits within a high-performing engineering function supporting high-traffic, mission-critical services used by customers and internal teams across the country.
This is a hands-on senior role in a lean team building secure, scalable, event-driven systems using a fully cloud-native stack. You’ll work with AWS CDK in TypeScript to define and manage infrastructure, with core services including Lambda, ECS (Fargate), API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, and Datadog.

What You’ll Do

• Design and manage infrastructure using AWS CDK (TypeScript)
• Work across Lambda, ECS (Fargate), API Gateway, EventBridge, SNS/SQS
• Configure DNS, routing, and health checks (Route 53)
• Own observability across all services using Datadog
• Implement secure, compliant environments (IAM, VPC, secrets, encryption)
• Maintain and optimise Redis (ElastiCache) caching layers
• Contribute to CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions with environment automation
• Support on-call rotation with a focus on prevention and reliability
• Write clear documentation and shape internal platform standards

What You Bring

• 5+ years in platform, SRE, or DevOps roles
• Proven experience with TypeScript in production settings
• Deep understanding of AWS services and infrastructure-as-code (CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Hands-on with ECS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, and networking fundamentals
• Confident working with CI/CD and observability tooling
• Strong communicator and independent problem solver
• Familiarity with API Gateway internals, service mesh, or security best practices
• AWS certifications (DevOps Pro, Security Specialty) highly regarded
