A major bank in Sydney is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to join their team on a 6 month contract, highly likely to extend
You’ll be part of a large project focused on container adoption and workload modernization
You'll work closely with developers to help design, build, and deploy container-based solutions.
You'll guide Platform Engineers through best practices in Docker, GitHub-based workflows, and modern release techniques—all running on a scalable Kubernetes (EKS) foundation.

Responsibilities;

• Partner with application developers to modernize and migrate services into Docker-based environments
• Lead the design and implementation of containerization strategies for existing and new workloads
• Champion cloud-native design principles and drive adoption across teams
• Set and enforce best practices around Docker image creation, lifecycle management, and security
• Oversee CI/CD workflows leveraging GitHub, GitHub Actions, and automated release strategies
• Contribute to platform tooling and automation that improves developer experience and operational reliability
• Mentor other engineers and establish platform engineering standards and practices

Key skills / Experience:

• Deep expertise in Docker—building, optimizing, and managing containerized applicationa
• Hands-on experience with EKS or similar Kubernetes platforms in production environments
• Experience guiding application developers through container adoption and best practices
• Solid understanding of cloud-native architecture, 12-factor apps, and microservices
• Proficiency with GitHub, GitHub Actions, and modern release techniques
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Helm)
• Financial services experience an advantage
