Build the Infrastructure That Powers Multiple AI Startups
Most DevOps engineers optimise one product's infrastructure. You'll architect and automate the platform that launches 3-5 AI-native ventures simultaneously. 1QLabs systematically creates AI-powered businesses, and we need bulletproof infrastructure and backend systems that let our teams focus on shipping features, not fighting deployments.
The Challenge
Our developers currently context-switch between building features and managing infrastructure. You'll own the platform that eliminates that friction, creating automated, multi-tenant environments where new ventures can ship from day one, while also building the backend services that power our AI-native applications.
What You'll Own
Platform Architecture & Automation
Multi-Tenant Infrastructure: Design and maintain secure, isolated environments for multiple ventures using GCP services
Infrastructure as Code: Build repeatable patterns with Terraform/Pulumi for rapid venture provisioning and scaling
Venture Enablement: Create self-service tooling that gets new products from concept to production in hours, not weeks
Firebase Platform Management: Automate database provisioning, Cloud Functions deployment, and Eventarc trigger management across ventures
Backend Development & API Services
Microservices Architecture: Develop backend services using TypeScript/Node.js that support multiple ventures
API Development: Build robust REST and gRPC APIs with Protocol Buffers for high-performance communication
AI Integration Services: Develop backend services that orchestrate AI workflows and manage model interactio
Real-Time Systems: Implement event-driven architectures using Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, and Firestore triggers
CI/CD & Developer Experience
Deployment Pipelines: Implement automated workflows delivering rapid code-to-production cycles
Developer Tooling: Provide frictionless local development environments and automated testing pipelines
Release Management: Design automated deployment systems and rollback strategies
Documentation: Create clear runbooks and self-service guides that reduce support overhead
Observability & Compliance
Monitoring & Alerting: Deploy comprehensive observability across all ventures with tenant-aware metrics
Compliance Automation: Implement automated audit logging, data residency controls, and healthcare compliance monitoring
Security & Access Control: Enforce multi-tenant security patterns, secrets management, and least-privilege access
Performance Optimisation: Monitor and tune application performance across the venture portfolio
Cross-Functional Excellence
Venture Partnership: Work directly with technical co-founders to understand infrastructure needs and growth patterns
Multi-Venture Context: Switch effectively between different technical stacks while maintaining consistent platform standards
Rapid Iteration Support: Build infrastructure that supports the fast-paced nature of venture development and pivot requirements
What We're Looking For
Core Requirements
3+ years in DevOps/SRE or cloud-native backend engineering in dynamic environments
Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform or Pulumi preferred)
Strong backend development skills in modern languages (TypeScript/Node.js, Python)
Understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements for healthcare/sensitive data (HIPAA, Australian Privacy Act)
Technical Skills
Hands-on experience with GCP services, Firebase ecosystem, and serverless architectures
Proficiency with containerization, CI/CD systems, and automated testing frameworks
Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and event-driven system design
Understanding of comprehensive observability and incident management
Knowledge of database management and real-time data synchronisation
Bonus Points
Venture studio or multi-product environment experience
Experience with multi-tenant architectures and tenant isolation patterns
AI/ML infrastructure and GPU workload management
Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or AI orchestration frameworks
Google Cloud Certified Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional certifications (Cloud DevOps Engineer, Cloud Developer, or Cloud Architect preferred)
Success Milestones
30 Days: Audit current infrastructure, establish monitoring baselines, implement first automation improvements, and contribute to backend services
90 Days: Deploy comprehensive CI/CD pipelines, establish incident response procedures, build reusable infrastructure patterns, and own backend service development
6 Months: Achieve streamlined venture provisioning workflows, demonstrate clear cost optimisation wins, and become a go-to technical partner for infrastructure and backend architecture decisions
Why This Role Is Different
Multi-Venture Impact: Build infrastructure and backend services that accelerate multiple startups instead of maintaining one system
Rapid Launch Enablement: Design systems specifically for the unique challenge of launching new ventures quickly and efficiently
Ownership: Direct influence on venture success through infrastructure reliability, developer velocity, and backend service quality
Learning Acceleration: Exposure to diverse technical challenges, cutting-edge AI applications, and venture studio operational patterns
Growth Path: Define your trajectory from platform ownership to potential team leadership
