Dhulawang Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a dedicated and experienced woman to co-design and lead a First Nations family, sexual and domestic violence program. This role will center on providing a culturally safe, supportive, and empowering environment for First Nations women and be based at our office in Kempsey.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Delivery:
Design culturally appropriate support programs tailored to the needs of First Nations women affected by family, domestic and sexual violence.
Facilitate weekly group sessions that offer emotional support, empowerment, and practical strategies for healing and recovery.
Integrate traditional cultural knowledge and healing practices into the programs where possible.
Create a domestic violence education and awareness plan.
Provide domestic violence workshops at community organisations.
Empowerment & Advocacy:
Create a safe and supportive space for First Nations women to share their stories, heal, and regain control of their lives.
Empower participants with the tools to access vital services such as legal aid, health services, and housing support.
Advocate for the rights and well-being of participants within the community and with relevant service providers.
Collaboration & Partnerships:
Establish and nurture relationships with local services, health organisations, and cultural leaders to ensure a holistic approach to participant support.
Work with stakeholders to organise guest speakers, workshops, and resources that meet the specific needs of the program.
Monitoring & Reporting:
Regularly assess the needs of participants and adapt the programs to ensure their relevance and effectiveness.
Provide regular progress reports on program outcomes, feedback from participants, and necessary program adjustments.
Monitor the progress of participants and assist with referrals to specialised services when needed.
Essential Criteria:
A strong understanding of First Nations culture, history, and the specific challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
Proven experience supporting and advocating for First Nations women affected by violence.
Experience in group facilitation, especially in providing trauma-informed care in a culturally sensitive manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for participants.
Proven ability to engage with First Nations communities and understand their unique needs.
Qualifications in Social Work, Domestic and Family Violence, or a related field are highly advantageous.
Valid drivers license
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
Desirable:
Knowledge of local services and organisations that support women experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence.
Experience delivering therapeutic or educational programs to groups.
Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and healing approaches.
