Key Responsibilities
Interviewing clients to determine the nature of problems, recommending and undertaking appropriate legal action;
Ensure compliance with local IP laws and regulations;
File and manage applications for trade mark, patents and other IP rights;
Representing clients in court as necessary;
Preparing and critically reviewing contracts between parties;
Advise on IP registration, enforcement and commercialisation opportunities; and
Manage renewals and maintenance of IP assets.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Bachelor degree or higher qualification;
Admission in Australia as a Solicitor;
At least two (2) years of relevant experience within the legal industry. Specific experience in IP services highly desirable;
Admission in PNG as a Solicitor (highly recommended);
Professional body membership in a key Pacific Island nation (Papua New Guinea) - desired but not essential;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Ability to speak and understand Pidging and Motu (dialect in Papua New Guinea);
Excellent verbal communication skills; and
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
